Family Visit
Laurie, Michaela, and I dropped in to see Emma for a while and she's doing well. Some of today's developments sound scary, but we understand that they are to be expected in the normal course of events. She has a patent foramen ovale resulting in a heart murmur, and her hemoglobin levels were a bit low due primarily to blood drawn for required tests. She was receiving a blood transfusion when we arrived, and may be given medication to help address the PFO tonight. She had a cranial ultrasound this morning and it was completely normal. She's now up to 2ml of breast milk every 4 hours and is tolerating it well. Oxygen saturation, heart rate, and blood pressure all look good.
Overall, she looked more colourful than yesterday (the blood transfusion definately helped) and was sleeping peacefully on her side with her tiny hand in front of her face. Michaela seems to enjoy visiting her sister, and is completely unphased by the NICU, isollet, tubes, and wires.

The results of the cranial u/s must have been a huge relief.
Hurray to Michaela and her ability to see beyond the paraphenalia and look at the true person...a lesson we could all learn from :~)
my 10 yr old has/had? a PFO which was checked regularly when she was younger and is insignificant right now
hurray to Michaela for taking it all in stride and like Shannon said, seing beyond all the paraphernalia surrounding Emma
love hearing all these encouraging news
Sounds like Emma had a busy day! I too am touched at the thought of her big sister enjoying being just that - a big sister full of unconditional love - the start to a beautiful relationship.
Can I add that I too have a similar heart thingy, but mine is called ventricular septal defect (VSD) and well, I am a 'little' older than montse's 10 year old (ahem) and am fine (depends on your definition of 'fine').
Thanx again for the most regular and good news updates...sending more hugs and will continue to do so forever.
I guess any new thing can be scarey but it looks like Little Emma is quite the fighter. Glad to hear the scan went well. I can't wait to meet this amazing young lady some time. Eric your so lucky to be surround with all these wonderful ladies!
Keeping up the good thought, Prayers and hugs

Hi Laurie and Eric,
It's Anne's friend Sherry. Anne gave me the address for the Emma Report and I am following it closely.
My niece and nephew(twin) were born 13 1/2 weeks premature, so I am following your family's progress very closely and remembering when they were going through the same things.
Emma sounds like she is a fighter and I look forward to seeing her when she comes home.
Michaela seems to be accepting things and loves her sister dearly. Our prayers and happy wishes are with you all.
Sherry Jones
