Back On the Charts
Emma is finally, finally, back on the preterm infant growth charts. Although her birth weight of 678 grams (1 lb., 8 oz.) placed her at the 50th percentile for her gestational age of 24 weeks, due to Emma's early health problems, she had fallen off the growth charts. In fact, until today, her growth/weight gain had been beneath the 3rd percentile. Even though she was consistently gaining weight, it was never quite enough for her to get back on the charts.

Today, however, Miss Emma has bounded back on the charts and she sits comfortably just above the 3rd percentile for her gestational age. We had another session with the lactation consultant at the Special Care nursery and the appointment showed that Emma has gained really well over the past week. She weighed in today at 7 pounds, 3 ounces! Her "half-pound cheeks" are getting even pudgier :)

We've been sticking pretty close to home since Christmas, because Big Sister has a nasty cold. Michaela was feeling a bit better tonight though, and agreed to pose for a family photo:

...and further proof that Miss Michaela shares her father's sense of humour :)

Dear Laurie,
It was an awesome priviledge to get to hold Emma yesterday and to see IRL how absolutely beautiful she is and how well she is doing. Kudos to you all for an awesome job.
