The Endless Wait

Emma, Big Sister and I just spent the better part of 2 hours at CHEO waiting for what amounted to a 5 minute appointment with Emma's ENT doc.

Emma did great for the first half hour. She coloured, she looked at books, she played with Big Sister, and she made some new friends with the other kids in the waiting room.

Then, she got tired of waiting.

We tried to amuse her.

We gave her books. She threw them away.

We gave her crayons. She stuck them in her ears.

We gave her snacks. She smushed them into the carpet.

We showed her the drawings that other kids had hung on the walls. She tore them down.

She climbed onto the table. I put her down on the floor. She climbed up again. I put her down again. Repeat eleventy million times.

We walked miles and miles in the hallway. She threw herself down on the floor in full toddler tantrum mode each time we tried to turn her around to head back towards the waiting room.

"My," said several other parents, "she's busy isn't she."

Yes. She is.

It's a good thing she's cute, 'cause I nearly sold her to the circus this morning.

She's napping now.

Mommy needs a drink.

P.S. She needs to have another swallow study in September. Oh joy.

Argh. 2 hours for a 5 minute appointment, I would have been getting impatient myself. I know it's hospital, but if you have an appointment you would think that the wait window wouldn't max out a half an hour. Sorry she has to do that swallow thing again.

why did you have to wait so long? I've never had that problem there...poor you with both girls!!

But you're most certainly right about how darn cute she is.
